Picture a Tuesday in Johns Creek. After work, you grab dinner at Northern China Eatery at Medley, the new downtown that opened this week, then stroll the Boardwalk at Town Center as the sun goes down. On Friday you meet friends in Alpharetta for tacos at Amasa Mexican Kitchen at Alpharetta City Center.
The first question we hear up here is usually about schools: “Which schools does this house go to?” The friend-to-friend answer: we’ll show you exactly where to confirm it, then help you find a home that fits the rest of your life too.
Living in Johns Creek GA now includes Medley, a $560 million, 43-acre downtown that opened October 29, 2026. Johns Creek’s median sale price was about $670,000 for the three months ending September 2026, per Redfin, with homes selling in about 38 days. Neighboring Alpharetta ran about $750,000.
What is Medley in Johns Creek?
Medley is the new heart of Johns Creek, and it just opened. Toro Development turned an older office site into a walkable downtown at 2140 Medley Boulevard, and the grand opening was October 29, 2026, the AJC reported.
- The scale: a $560 million project on 43 acres.
- What’s there now: restaurants including Stir, making its Georgia debut, Northern China Eatery, Tabla and Lily Sushi, around a 25,000-square-foot plaza with a stage. Trader Joe’s opened earlier, in June.
- Jobs on site: the new four-story office building is fully leased, with Boehringer Ingelheim taking about half the space, the AJC reported.
- Homes: citybiz counts 881 residences in the plan, including for-sale townhomes, which the AJC says open next year.
- What’s next: a 150-room boutique hotel expected in 2028.
“We’re being offered opportunities to reimagine dead suburban office parks because that real estate product is no longer viable,” developer Mark Toro told the AJC. In Johns Creek, that reimagining became a brand-new downtown.
How is Johns Creek’s town center coming together?
Think of it like a house getting built room by room.

- The Boardwalk at Town Center (May 2026). The city held a grand opening for the Boardwalk on May 8, 2026, giving residents a new outdoor place to walk and gather.
- Trader Joe’s at Medley (June 2026). The grocery store opened first, the everyday anchor.
- Medley’s grand opening (October 29, 2026). Restaurants, shops, the plaza and the office building.
- Medley’s townhomes (2027) and hotel (2028). The for-sale townhomes come next, then the hotel.
How do you walk to Johns Creek’s Town Center?
Here’s the hidden connector. Medlock Bridge Road is a busy state route that splits Johns Creek’s neighborhoods and shops from the new Boardwalk park. So the city built a way under it.
The Medlock Bridge Road pedestrian tunnel opened with a ribbon cutting on August 12, 2026, Appen Media reported. A few details:
- The size: 124 feet long and 42 feet wide, just north of Johns Creek Parkway.
- The cost: a $6.5 million project paid for with TSPLOST dollars (a voter-approved local sales tax for transportation), or about $7 million with right-of-way and engineering.
- The surprise: it’s lit and lined with artificial turf, so the city can use it as an event space, too.
On the other side is the Boardwalk at Town Center, a 20-acre park beside City Hall with a 15-foot-wide elevated trail, a bandshell and amphitheater, terraced seating and pond overlooks, according to the city. Its trail runs about a mile north from Johns Creek Parkway toward McGinnis Ferry Road.
Put it together, and the pieces of Johns Creek’s new center (the Boardwalk, Medley and the shops on the west side of Medlock Bridge) start to work as one walkable place. Mayor John Bradberry told Appen Media the council chose the tunnel option, and “I think that was the correct decision.”
What that means for you: homes within walking distance of the tunnel, the Boardwalk or Medley may get the most out of the new downtown. When we tour together, we’ll walk the route from the house to the tunnel, so you can feel the distance yourself instead of guessing from a map.
What is it like living in Alpharetta?
Alpharetta’s center is Alpharetta City Center, a walkable downtown with restaurants, shops and green space. Amasa Mexican Kitchen is one of the newest arrivals, at 15 Academy Street, and it held its grand opening celebration on September 18, 2026.

Housing in both cities runs from townhomes near the town centers to larger single-family neighborhoods, most with a homeowners association.
Is Johns Creek or Alpharetta more expensive?
Alpharetta’s typical sale runs higher. Here’s the snapshot for the three months ending September 2026, from Redfin:
| Area | Median sale price | Median days on market |
|---|---|---|
| Alpharetta | $750,000 | 50 |
| Johns Creek | $670,000 | 38 |
| City of Atlanta | $425,000 | 63 |
What that means in real life:
- Johns Creek can stretch your budget a little further. Its typical sale runs about $80,000 under Alpharetta’s.
- Johns Creek homes move faster. At about 38 days, being pre-approved and ready to tour helps you act with confidence.
- Alpharetta gives you a bit more time. About 50 days on market leaves room to compare and negotiate.
The price tag is only part of it. HOA dues, taxes and insurance vary a lot by neighborhood up here. Before you tour, check what a North Fulton home would really cost you each month.
What surprises people about living in Alpharetta and Johns Creek?
Traffic on GA 400 and Medlock Bridge Road. Rush hour can be slow. The way forward: test your commute at the real hour you’ll drive it, and look at homes close to where you work or close to the new town centers, so more of your errands stay local.
Most neighborhoods have an HOA. That means monthly or annual dues and rules about things like fences, paint colors and parking. The upside: HOAs often maintain shared amenities and keep the neighborhood consistent. We’ll read the rules and budget together before you write an offer.
Which schools does a Johns Creek or Alpharetta home go to?
School assignments are set by Fulton County Schools and can change, so the only reliable answer for a specific address comes from the district itself. We’ll point you to the district’s official school lookup for any home you’re considering and help you confirm it before you make an offer. We don’t rank schools, but we’ll make sure you have the right source.
Who do Alpharetta and Johns Creek fit best?
- People relocating for work on the GA 400 corridor. Living near the office can save hours every week.
- Buyers who want a new walkable downtown in the suburbs. Medley and Alpharetta City Center both bring dinner and coffee within reach.
- Move-up buyers. If you want more space, both cities have established single-family neighborhoods.

Yes. Johns Creek cut the ribbon on August 12, 2026, Appen Media reported. The 124-foot tunnel carries walkers and cyclists under Medlock Bridge Road into the Boardwalk at Town Center, a 20-acre park with an elevated trail beside City Hall.
What this means for you
Johns Creek just got the downtown it’s never had, and Alpharetta keeps adding to its city center. Homes in Johns Creek are moving quickly, while Alpharetta gives you a little more time to compare. With Medley’s for-sale townhomes due in 2027 and a hotel in 2028, the area could keep getting more walkable over the next few years. The new tunnel under Medlock Bridge Road is the first real proof of that: a busy road that used to split the district is now something you can simply walk under.
